چکیده

Cation exchange properties of tetratitanic acid with interlayer protons were measured and compared to those of titania with surface hydroxyl protons using the Frumkin equation. Tetratitanic acid showed larger ion-exchange capacity and much higher activity than titania. The characteristics of exchangeable protons and intercalated cations are discussed to explain the different ion-exchange properties. The interlayer protons of tetratitanic acid can be regarded as acid functional groups of an oxoacid of Ti, and acid functional groups dissociate much more easily than the surface hydroxyl groups on titania that are formed by hydration. The cations intercalated into tetratitanate are sandwiched between opposing titanate layers with negative charges and are better stabilized than the cations adsorbed on the outer surfaces of titania owing to better neutralization of cationic charges.

Nitric Acid-activated Nteje Clay: Structural and Bleaching Properties (RESEARCH NOTE)

The structural and bleaching properties of nitric acid-activated Nteje clay was studied to investigate its ability to serve as an alternative to the high cost imported bleaching earth. The clay was mined, sun-dried, grinded, and reacted with different concentrations of nitric acid, ranging from 2 mol.L-1 to 15 mol.L-1. The un-activated and activated samples were characterized to study the struc...

Probing Water and CO₂ Interactions at the Surface of Collapsed Titania Nanotubes Using IR Spectroscopy.

Collapsed titania nanotubes (cTiNT) were synthesized by the calcination of titania nanotubes (TiNT) at 650 °C, which leads to a collapse of their tubular morphology, a substantial reduction in surface area, and a partial transformation of anatase to the rutile phase. There are no significant changes in the position of the XPS responses for Ti and O on oxidation or reduction of the cTiNTs, but t...

Investigation of the synergistic effect of titania micro and nanoparticles on the hydrophobic properties of polyurethane composite coating

One of the ways to improve the performance of ceramic insulators in polluted climates is to use polymer coatings reinforced with ceramic particles. The purpose of this study is to compare the effect of adding Titania nanoparticles and Titania micro-nanoparticles on hydrophobic properties of PU. In this method, stearic acid, which is a cheap and environmentally friendly material, was used for su...

Non-Isothermal Degradation Kinetics of High Energy Protons Irradiated Polyvinyl Butyral

This research is aimed to undertake a comparative study on stability and thermal degradation kinetics of un-irradiated and high energy protons irradiated polyvinyl butyral (PVB) based on weight loss analysis and non-isothermal approaches. The weight loss by the un-irradiated PVB upon heating was found to be in two stages but due to high energy protons accelerated exposure following by chemical ...

High Performance Nanocomposite Cation Exchange Membrane: Effects of Functionalized Silica-Coated Magnetic Nanoparticles

Nanocomposite cation exchange membranes (CEMs) were prepared by adding various amounts of functionalized silica-coated magnetite nanoparticles to the sulfonated polyethersulfone (sPES) polymeric matrix. The particles were synthesized first by the co-precipitation method (M0). Different surface modifications were then carried out on them by grafting three functional groups of mercaptopropyl, pro...
